The Great Apartment Hunt
We had been strongly encouraged to find somewhere close to our workplace β and I can now understand why.
When you don’t have a car, when you are relying on cabs and when the roads are steep and winding, proximity suddenly becomes very important!
So, we searched and looked at apartment after apartment and found one that is really nice.
We Found Our Home
Last weekend, we moved into our apartment. And what a difference it has made. It isn’t huge, but it is cozy, comfortable and beginning to feel like home.
And then there is the patio. Oh, the patio!
Our building sits at a fairly high elevation, and the view is simply stupendous. From our patio, we can see the airport in the distance and the beautiful rolling hills of Kigali, dotted with homes and pockets of green. Every time I look out, I have to remind myself:
This is our view for the next little while.

There is something very special about that thought.
Just a week earlier, we were living out of suitcases in a hotel, trying to figure out where the supermarket was and wondering how on earth we were going to get around.
Now we have a little home, a beautiful view and a place to sit together at the end of the day.
We are still figuring things out and learning how to get around.
And I suspect Kigali is teaching us something already:
Sometimes you have to stop trying to make life fit your schedule and simply learn to experience it as it comes.
Maybe that’s what this adventure is really going to be about.
